Welcome!

Please join us for a special masterclass
With Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway

Sunday, July 15, 2007
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

At COPIA
500 First Street,
Napa, California 94559

Adult and teen flute players, ages 12 and older, are invited to attend this exciting, educational event, which will take place in the theater at COPIA, Napa's unique American Center for Wine, Food, and the Arts.  The class is targeted to advanced and intermediate players.  Beginners and non-flutists are also welcome to audit.  Advance registration is required.

The Galways

Sir James Galway is the world's most celebrated flute player and the largest selling classical artist living today.  Lady Jeanne Galway is also admired across the globe, as a stellar solo performer and chamber musician.  Together, Sir James and Lady Galway are the most beloved flute duo of our era.  They are legendary in their devotion to educational outreach and to developing young talent.  Read more about Sir James here, and about Lady Galway here.

Bring Your Flute!

If you own a flute, Sir James invites you to bring it and to participate in warm-ups that he will conduct in the first part of the class.  Join in hands-on practice of techniques to enhance the playing of even seasoned flutists.

Class Performers

Advanced players, ages 20 and older, who have reached at least the college level, are invited to audition to perform for Sir James in the masterclass.  Four performers and an alternate will be selected.  Applications must be received by Monday, June 18, 2007.  There are modest fees to audition and perform, with scholarship assistance available to those who need it.  Complete instructions may be viewed and downloaded  here.

Teen Event with Lady Galway

Intermediate flute students, ages 12 - 17, are invited to enroll in the special Teen Event with Lady Galway.
After the warm-ups with Sir James, teen participants will exit the main theater mid-morning and retreat to a classroom, where Lady Galway will lead a masterclass targeted to their proficiency.  After the lunch break, the teen group will meet again to perfect an ensemble piece.  They will then return to the theater to perform their music on stage for Sir James and the entire masterclass audience.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn from Lady Galway, who has a gift for showing young flutists how to strengthen their technique to achieve desired results.  This session will be fun, and enrollment is limited, so reserve your place early!  After you register for the masterclass,
send us an e-mail at info@flutebayarea.com, telling us you want to join the Teen Event.  We will contact you and send you the music in early June, so you can practice, practice, practice...
